Twice a year, Golf courses are coring their greens, an essential step for beautiful and healthy greens.
But what is it ?
Every single day, greens are trampled by golfers when walking on a 3 millimeters cut grass. The Coring process allows the greens to be « aerated ». This means that cores of soil are removed from the ground, the holes being filled with sand, which will facilitate water absorption. Aeration is a very important step for good green health throughout the season.
Core drilling at LaLargue golf course
Jean-Pierre (head-greenkeeper) and his team carried out the 18 holes greens and tees coring last Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th March. This operation requires very specific weather conditions: first of all, place on after a period of several days of dryness, and before several days of rain that are needed to allow the sand to penetrate the ground quicker.
